So I see you've found yourself trying to learn more about Jessie White. Luckily, you'll be hearing it straight from the horse's mouth but let's begin by first clarifying that I'm unfortunately not a horse. I'm a freelance writer, humorist, and retired barista in Chicago that has the pleasure of being a contributor for Rise over Run Fitness. I've been writing for as long as I can remember but received my first award in 5th grade for my captivating essay on a character word of the month of my choice (I chose "Perseverance" and got a whopping $150 award for that bad boy, but hey, us freelancers take what we can get). This financial gratification inspired me to become a writer someday, a very easily-obtained goal in the eyes of a 5th grader, but to fair, I did choose "Perseverance."
After grabbing a Film degree in Florida, I moved to Chicago to study comedy writing at The Second City and iO. Shortly after, I began the blog TwentyUnfortunate with the goal of normalizing vulnerability as a tool for strength. From that, I've expanded to writing about Chicago tourism, mental health, and "funny" crap that pops into my head when my Ubers take too long to get me to some overpriced bar on the West Side.
I joined Rise over Run because while I write a lot about mental health it's undeniable that physical health is directly connected to mental wellness (and vice-versa). There's always room for growth and Rise over Run has been an outstanding tool for kickstarting the plans I've put off for a while. My goals include: Cultivating an environment in which mental illness is more openly discussed, becoming a contributor for Reductress, and being able to do a singular pull up someday. A girl can dream, right?
